On June 29, 2021, Minister Jordan announces the long-term closure of commercial Salmon fisheries and the retirement of licences in an effort to save Pacific Salmon.
The global catch of Pacific salmon in 2020 was the lowest since 1982 and has prompted the closure of nearly 60 percent of commercial salmon fisheries for the 2021 season.
