Marine Liaison

The Tsartlip First Nation is pleased to invite applicants to apply to the fixed term, full-time Marine Liaison position until April 30, 2025.

The Marine Liaison oversees and carries out program development and activities through the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) Co-Developing Community Response Accommodation (Agreement) as well as other activities to support the Stewardship department. The Marine Liaison reports to the Stewardship Director.

Preference may be given to persons of Aboriginal ancestry and/or having knowledge of the W̱SÁNEĆ culture and traditions.

The wage range for this position is $25 – $27.50 per hour.

Education and Experience

  • Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma);
  • Degree or diploma in a discipline such as Aquaculture, or Fisheries Resource Management, an asset;
  • Experience working with a First Nation organization; and
  • 5 years of current experience in the fishing or fisheries industry; or
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience;
  • Experience utilizing Trailmark Systems platform or the willingness to undergo training;
  • Experience liaising with various regulatory agencies an asset;
  • Experience developing a variety of written reports, presentations and other documentation an asset;
  • Experience operating navigation aids and software such as Tide and Current Tables, GIS, GPS, sonar,
    radar and navigation software or the willingness to undergo training;
  • Experience operating power boats up to 15 tons or 12 meters or willingness to undergo training;
  • Must possess or undergo training for the following certificates: Small Vessel Operator Proficiency;
    Restricted Radio Telephone Operator/VHF; Medical Emergency, Swift Water, and Marine First Aid
    certificates;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable vehicle plus a clean driver’s abstract and appropriate insurance;
  • Clean criminal record check required.

Tsartlip 653 is comprised of Goldstream IR13, Mayne Island IR6, Senanus Island IR10 and South Saanich IR1 covering approximately 334 hectares in size and includes single family residential and leased homes, band administrations and commercial developments.
