Meet Ihor, Tsartlip’s Director of Capital Projects, Public Works and Housing. Read his introduction interview below.

Can you tell me a bit about who you are and where you’re from?

Originally from Ukraine, I moved to Canada 18 years ago. My professional background is in civil engineering. I have 20+ years of professional experience in leading the projects, programs and project delivery teams and departments for capital, lifecycle project delivery and maintenance, predominantly for vertical infrastructure. I established my professional career as owner representative within the public funded organizations, worked for municipal government in Calgary, Vancouver School Board and others.

On a personal note, I have a young family, wife and two kids.

What’s your title and what will you do at Tsartlip?

My title at Tsartlip is director of Capital projects, Public Works and Housing.

What will you do in this role as a director?

I am leading the department for housing, capital projects, master plan development and overseeing the operations and maintenance. I am a professional engineer with a visionary and adaptive leadership style that helps me to strive in seeking the opportunities outside the position’s boundaries, as I know wisely investment outside of the box will pay dividends to the entire community and facilities team.

I am thrilled to have the ability to address the imminent needs for OH&S, compliance and implementing best project management practices that would lay the foundation for the overall success.

Is there any other experience or expertise that you bring to the table that you didn’t mention earlier?

I am happy to bring a broad experience of 20+ years in capital construction, facility management, master plan development and housing. The mixed experience resides starting from architecture, civil, building envelope and high efficient, net- zero sustainable housing solutions.  I’ve been engaged in projects for First Nations in Calgary as well, addressed guidelines, procurement methodologies, specifications, value added design solutions in meeting the housing demand with account of environmental future challenges and opportunities.

Do you have any other hopes for what you wish to accomplish with your role at Tsartlip?

I hope that the external macro factors (economy, funding and politics) that are outside of TFN control would be favorable and aligned with TFN master plan and other initiatives, where on our side, we will make it happen using our strength and knowledge for collaborative front-end work and execution. I would strive to establish a proactive and yet timely effective approach for the full cycle of project delivery, from engagement, execution and operation, while also keeping focus on maintaining the existing assets such as housing, structures and infrastructure.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

Spending time with my family on beautiful local lands, landscapes, enjoying water, hiking and mountains.
