Job Summary

The Tsartlip First Nation is pleased to invite applicants to apply to the, part-time fixed term Community Cook position until 3rd October 2025.

The Community Cook is responsible for providing culinary support to the Tsartlip First Nation community. This part-time position requires flexibility in working hours to accommodate varying needs. The Community Cook will ensure the procurement, preparation, and serving of culturally appropriate meals while maintaining cleanliness and organization in the community kitchen.
The Community Cook operates under the direct supervision of the Children Youth and Families Programs Manager.

Preference may be given to persons of Aboriginal ancestry and/or having knowledge of the W̱SÁNEĆ culture and traditions.
The wage for this position is $18 per hour.

Education and Experience

  • Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma);
  • Experience preparing food in an institutional environment such as retirement homes, childcare or community centres;
  • Experience planning menus and determining size of food portions;
  • Experience estimating food requirements and cost, and controlling labour cost preferred;
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1 certificate, or willingness to undergo training;
  • Valid WHMIS certificate or willingness to undergo training;
  • Experience working with Indigenous people
  • Clean criminal record check is required.

The Tsartlip First Nation is one of five communities that constitute the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation. Located on the west side of the Saanich Peninsula (south east Vancouver Island), the W̱SÁNEĆ people have lived on these lands since time immemorial.

Our vision is to honour the past, while moving forward and creating opportunities for our future generations. We have a population of 1038 registered members living both on and off Tsartlip First Nation territory.

Tsartlip 653 is comprised of Goldstream IR13, Mayne Island IR6, Senanus Island IR10 and South Saanich IR1 covering approximately 334 hectares in size and includes single family residential and leased homes, band administrations and commercial developments.
