Director of Community Services

Position Summary

The Tsartlip First Nation is pleased to invite applicants to apply to the permanent, full-time Director of Community Services position.

The Director of Community Services oversees the Community Services Department and provides leadership in developing safe and culturally appropriate programs and services for the Tsartlip First Nation community. The role supports social development, healthy relationships between children and families, and employment and training opportunities, while also serving as a key member of the Tsartlip senior management team.

Education and Experience

• Degree or Diploma in Human Services, Community Development, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Business Administration, or a related field;

• Minimum 5–8 years of experience providing direct service in community-based systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;

• Minimum 2 years of experience managing, directing, and leading employees and contractors, preferably in a unionized work environment;

• Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating services for a First Nation community is an asset;

• Experience preparing reports, policies, procedures, analyses, presentations, and other organizational documentation;

• Experience developing, managing, and controlling operating budgets;

• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable vehicle required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversees and provides leadership and direction for the planning, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of Community Services programs and services related to social development, child and family relationships, and employment and training;

• Oversees social development programs and services, including income assistance, counselling or referral services, and support for Elders in the community;

• Develops administrative processes to support community members in accessing assistance with income assistance and social welfare-related applications;

• Leads the development of programs, workshops, events, and educational materials that promote healthy relationships between children and families in the community;

• Oversees employment and training programs and services that support community members in obtaining and maintaining employment and developing their long-term careers;

• Engages community youth in employment and training initiatives to support the development of job skills and access to employment opportunities;

• Prepares funding proposals and ensures programs and services are adequately funded, with required reports completed according to funding and partnership agreements;

• Develops and administers the annual departmental budget in collaboration with the CFO and monitors expenditures to ensure operations remain within budget;

• Prepares and presents quarterly, annual, and project reports for the Administrator, Chief and Council, the community, and other stakeholders as required;

• Leads departmental human resource initiatives, including performance management, productivity standards, staff evaluation, coaching, consultation, and professional development;

• Monitors programs and services for opportunities for improvement and innovation while ensuring service quality standards are maintained;

• Maintains strict confidentiality, exercises sound judgment when handling sensitive matters, promotes a safe workplace, and carries out other duties as directed by the Administrator.

The salary range for this position is $113,000–$165,000 per annum.
